Twilight: Movie vs Book

The Twilight saga is a fantasy book that became even more popular with the movie that came out two years after the book. Twilight is about a teenage girl that brings danger to her life by falling in love with an immortal vampire. The book is written by Stephanie Meyer who has written 3 more books to the series. Even thought that the movie â€Å"Twilight† was based on the book it had a lot of differences and there were a lot of missing parts. One of the biggest differences is that the book is written from Bella's thoughts; it is really she who narrates the situations she is in. The reader gets to be Bella in a way and you find out everything she thinks and feels about Edward. Although in the movie reflects on both Bella and Edward, by watching the movie you don’t get the same feeling as in the book. If there are some private thoughts of Bella that the viewer must know about, you get them in the context of the story; it feels almost like Bella is writing a diary.Another im portant difference is how Bella finds out that Edward is a vampire. In the book, the school they are going in is having a dance and because Bella is not really that in to dancing she and Edward decide to go to Seattle, but the don’t even go to Seattle instead Edward takes Bella to the meadow and tells her what he is and he reveals himself in the sunlight so that she can see that he is sparkling in the sunlight. In the movie they are in front of their school preparing to go to class and Edward decides to go to the nearby forest, Bella went after him and she confessed that she knows what he is, Edward was surprised and he tries to scare her by showing himself in to the sunlight so that she can see that he is sparkling. However the book and the movie have a lot of similarities as well. The family dynamics are described very well. In the book Bella’s mother Rene is very eccentric and she cares a lot about Bella, even though she does not get more than a few minutes in the mo vie, you can easily see her personality. It is the same with Bella’s father Charlie, he did not spend much time with Bella when she was little and the awkwardness between them is described well in the book and in the movie. Altogether both the book and the movie follow the same storyline. As I mentioned earlier the movie is based on the book twilight and it is hard to miss that, they have the same method and all the important characters. I would recommend to read the book first and then watching the movie because the small differences in the movie are significant as of course that depends from the viewers.

At universities and colleges, sports and social activities are just as important as classes and libraries and should receive equal financial support Essay

There has been a long debate about whether sports and social activities are just as important as classes and libraries. Some people claim that classes and libraries are more crucial and deserve more financial support because hiring qualified teaching staff and updating research sources in libraries needs a lot of money. Others hold the opposite opinion. Nevertheless, the purpose of school education is not only providing opportunities to acquire knowledge but also cultivating different kind of skills and interests which may also play an important role in students’ later life. Therefore, personally I support that social activities and sports are as crucial as classes and libraries which should get equal support from school for the following reasons. To begin with, attending the sport and social activities provide students more chances to have a rest after a long time of study which may help them combine exertion and adequate rest. In my school, there are enough sports fields and basketball courts for students taking a lot of exercise such as playing football, basketball, tennis and running. In addition, we also have a large swimming pool which allows students to practice swimming skills and prepare for national swimming competition. After studying for a long period of time in class or in the library, we would also go there to have a rest which may makes us feel relaxed and refreshed. There is no doubt that doing sports could benefit our physical health. What’s more, scientific researches also prove that sports can also enhance the efficiency of our study. One research done by the National Health Institute, says that people who do sports or exercise at least 30 minutes a day tend to work more efficiently and make less mistakes. Moreover, participating sports and social activities can promote the development of different skills, such as communication skills, arrangement skills and the spirit of teamwork. When playing basketball, team members have to work together to fight against the adversaries and they need to share both happiness of victories and sorrows of failure. Or when two members have different opinion, it is necessary for them to discuss and reach to an agreement which may serve the whole team’s purpose best. This is perhaps one of the perfect ways to arouse the awareness of teamwork. Besides, when taking in social activities, it is inevitable that they will meet different kinds of problems which require them to try their best to resolve through efficient communication with others. In this way, they will realize the importance of connecting with others which will bring a lot of benefit when they face the real world. Finally, as our society is in need of all-round development talents, colleges and universities are supposed to cultivate their students who are adaptable to the development of the society. The support of the sports and social activities provides students many opportunities to apply what they have learnt into practice and then have a better command of knowledge. For example, an education major student can make use of the home school visiting activity to observe how the classes are taught and how educational policies are implemented in schools. On this condition, students may develop an all-round way. All in all, it is necessary to pay equal attention to classes and libraries as well as sports and social activities. It is not only beneficial to students’ physical and psychological health but also to their future development as well.

Concept and components of business cycles Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Concept and components of business cycles - Essay Example Whenever talks are made concerning the economic or business fluctuations, notions of aggregate economic income or output is anticipated. This is because, while business cycles are expressed in terms of fluctuations in GDP, there is usually an accompaniment by labor unemployment rate fluctuations too (Parkin, 2012). However, economists have often noted that there is variation in the lengths of a complete business cycle, as the duration may range from between two to twelve years, but averagely six years. Business cycles are significant in the sense that they highlight the economic relationships that exists in the economy. For instance, while growth in the economy will fall and rise with cycles, it generates a long-term trend line for growth. Economic growth above the trend line would result in a fall in the unemployment rate. Based on Okun’s Law, a 1% rise in GDP above the trend line would result in a 0.5% decline in the employment (Parkin & Bade, 2001). A business cycle is often comprised of four main stages that form its components. These are the recession (trough), contraction, recovery and expansion, and growth (peak). Even though the concept of the business cycle is used in relation to the larger economy, its phases can be applied to several sections of the business or a particular industry. The expansion and recovery phase relates to the period in which the business is rising, and consumer confidence is growing in the economy. As such, companies seize the opportunity to expand, and incomes and spending rates increase. This period is often associated with significant aggregate increase in factors such as total income, output, trade and employment rates. It persists for approximately six months, and is characterized by a widespread expansion of economic units/sectors in the economy. An extended period of this phase results in a boom in which the

Scott v. Sanford Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Scott v. Sanford - Case Study Example Upon his owners return to Missouri, Dred was then sold to Sanford who became the defendant in this case. The basis for the suit was that according to Abolishonist lawyers, Dred and his wife had lived on free ground for a period of time, with his daughter even born in the free states and therefore, could no longer considered a slave and was in effect, a free man. The main issue of this case was that Dred was asking the courts to decide as to whether he was no longer a slave and instead was not a citizen of the land and as such, should be accorded the same rights as a free man under the U.S. Constitution (Dred Scott v. Sanford, n.d.). Dred sued for his freedom in 1853 in the federal court of New York under the Diversity jurisdiction provided in article 3. section 2 of the U.S. constitution. Judge Robert William Wells who heard this case directed his jury to base the merits of the case on the Missouri law. As per the facts of evidence, Dred lost. All because he failed to present a witne ss who could attest to the fact that he was indeed a slave for Sanford. As expected, a case of this magnitude at the time found its way to the U.S. Supreme Court where it was heard and decided upon by Chief Justice Roger B. Taney who was known as former slave owner in Maryland. It was his decision on this case that made Dred v. Sandford a highly precedential case since Judge Taneys decision effectively invalidated the Missouri Compromise (The Dredd Scott Decision, 1996). In his courts decision, seven out of 9 judges declared that â€Å"no slave or descendant of a slave should be considered a citizen of America.† (The Dredd Scott Decision, 1996). As such, Dred had no right to sue an American citizen, nor sue for his freedom in the federal courts. He was in effect, still a slave. Taney declared that the U.S. Constitution explains that no man should be deprived of his property and as such Dred,

Career Development Personal Statement Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Career Development - Personal Statement Example I thought a lot about my next steps after graduation during my studies, and finally I decided to take up a Kimberly-Clark graduate program. I felt I still had lots of things to learn, and this program, which offered moving jobs, was an ideal way to acquire knowledge and experience, to get acquainted with various operating strategies and techniques, to see the different working styles. Besides, Kimberly-Clark is a very successful company, and it has a lot to offer to its employees. I was fascinated by the possibility to study from people who created and managed one of the biggest and most successful companies in Europe. Working for Kimberly-Clark is my first working experience in the field of Supply Chain Management, and I feel I've made the right choice. When I decided to study for to get the Supply Chain Management degree, I considered the possibility that some day I would have to change my occupation for some reasons. I found that the Supply Chain Manager can easily transition to Purchasing Management, Logistics and Procurement Management. Of course, the specifics of work is different for each of those specializations, but the basic education the Supply Manager has allows him/her to adapt to the new working requirements and get needed knowledge in a relatively short period of time. The supply chain management software can be divided into two major groups. Those are Supply chain planning (SCP) software and Supply chain execution (SCE) software. Supply chain planning (SCP) software is used for to improve the efficiency of the supply chain. The characteristic feature of this software is that it is entirely dependent from the accuracy of the information you feed it. This type of software is used for to track the quantity and whereabouts of materials or goods, for predicting the quantity of products the customers will need next month/year, etc. There are applications designed for each stage of the working process, and each of them has its specific functions. Supply chain execution (SCE) software is used for automating the different stages of the supply chain, like electronically routing the orders for the needed materials to the suppliers. The accuracy and reliability of the software depends on the accuracy and reliability of data you feed it. The updates to supply management software are produced frequently, and I usually install them, as I feel I should use all of the opportunities the manufacturers of this product present, as it makes my job much easier. Every day on my working place presents me some new tasks and challenges, and I rarely do some routine work. Of course, there are some things I usually do, but there is not much of them. My typical day in the office may start from responding to the requests the market sector manager makes. For example, he may request me to present a report on savings achieved by the market sector, as he does once a month. Than I would devote my time to planning next steps of the project and having meetings with my project team. At the end of the working day I may organize a meeting with the suppliers and discuss their performance during the last year. Of course, there is more movement on the market before holidays, and I have more things to do and to plan. Christmas and New Year time are the busiest, as the amount of orders increases, and, of course, there are a lot of tasks to finish at the end of the fiscal year. The goods Kimberly Clark produces are in demand 365 days a year,
